Mahasamudram - The sea within

Mohanlal in the recent times have given his dates to a bunch of upcoming directors. And, of course the star has reaped the benefits of new craftsman behind the camera in many such films like Udayananu Tharam, Tanmatra and Vadakkumnaathan. Here in Mahasamudram, he is attempting another chance for a big contentful flick with another debutant, Dr.S.Janardhanan. A noted name in the television circuits of Kerala, Dr.S.Janaradhanan has taken pains to present Mohanlal as a fisherman, for the first time in his filmi career.
Here Lal is Isahak, a fisherman who has many Passions like social work and football. Isahak falls in love with Devi and get married after a short love life at sea. But their married life and happiness is short lived as Devi is arrested and jailed for murder that happened on that very same night. Isahak essentially a person good at heart is left at shore denied the joy of spending even a day with his wife. Isahak encountered with a sea of problems turns to evil, as his life is left astray with no reason for happiness.
It is on their fifth wedding anniversary that Isahak comes to know that Devi is being released on parole. Jagathy ,who plays the local priest is one among those whom Isahaq keep a special relation and confides at times. The news of Devi's return changes whole world of Isahaq and he plans to bring back the joyousness of his life. But fate has much more to offer than Isahaq expected.
Innocent plays Isahak's father who becomes insane after the loss of his wife. The story deals with the various problems and troubles in Isahak's life and how they change him.
Although a lot of movies have been made on the sea shores and on the life of fishermen, Dr. S. Janardhanan says that this movie is a different attempt, because the sea is an essential part of the film and not a mere backdrop. The crew has shot for more than ten days in the sea, filming the marriage, first night, two action sequences involving Mohanlal and many other turning points of the movie. Laila who debuted in Malayalam, years back joins Mohanlal as the lead lady. Scripted by the director himself, the film has a few songs set to music by M. Jayachandran. Shaji wieldes the camera for this flick . The film also features Rahman, Saikumar, Innocent, Jagthy, Santhosh, Babu Namboodhiri and Krishnaprasad. The film is shot in the beaches of Vizhinjam, Kollam and Alappuzha. The film which is in its final cut stage will grace the theatres as an Onam release.

Don - The Chase Begins Again is the remake of the 1978 film Don, to be directed by Farhan Akhtar. The script of the previous film was written by his father, Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan (the father of Salman Khan).
The previous film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Pran and Helen. The new film will star Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Isha Koppikar. Shooting for the movie has already begun in Malaysia. The movie, to be shot 80 per cent in Malaysia, will be filmed around the tropical Langkawi island as well as the towering Petronas Twin Towers here and the Jalan Masjid India area, which is the 'little India' of Kuala Lumpur. The film is slated for a release on October 20, 2006.
We have seen Shahrukh Khan in his regular romantic avatar repeatedly and have loved him in all those mushy movies...
Now it's time to get a new slice of Shahrukh. Move over all the James Bonds and Indiana Jones of the world...
Our desi Don is all set to take you on a thrilling ride this Diwali...
'Don' happens to be the first official remake in Bollywood and is the new adaptation of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer of the same name. However 'Don' isn't just a rehash of the original film...
The setting and the characterizations is same but there are a lot more additions in terms of the characters, thrills and twists...
The biggest twist in the plot is the climax of the film that will have you completely surprised even if you have seen the original film...
With every passing day Farhan Akhtar's Don is taking a definite form...
Arjun Rampal has been roped in to essay the role played by Pran in 1978 Don...
The movie is the contemporary version of Don, however, Arjun's character will have some similarities with that of Pran's...
The filmmakers have also signed Ishaa Koppikar for a vital role. The role is not based on the original, but is a new addition to the movie...
Farhan Akhtar's version of 'Don', starring Shah Rukh and Priyanka Chopra will be shot exclusively in Malaysia from early 2006...
The Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board firmly believe that the film starring King Khan (India's biggest overseas star over the years) will help promote tourism in the South East Asian country, boasting of some exotic locales...

Spirit Discovers New Class Of Igneous Rocks.
During the past two-and-a-half years of traversing the central part of Gusev Crater, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit has analyzed the brushed and ground-into surfaces of multiple rocks using the alpha particle X-ray spectrometer, which measures the abundance of major chemical elements. In the process, Spirit has documented the first example of a particular kind of volcanic region on Mars known as an alkaline igneous province. The word alkaline refers to the abundance of sodium and potassium, two major rock-forming elements from the alkali metals on the left-hand side of the periodic table.
All of the relatively unaltered rocks -- those least changed by wind, water, freezing, or other weathering agents -- examined by Spirit have been igneous, meaning that they crystallized from molten magmas. One way geologists classify igneous rocks is by looking at the amount of potassium and sodium relative to the amount of silica, the most abundant rock-forming mineral on Earth.
In the case of volcanic rocks, the amount of silica present gives scientists clues to the kind of volcanism that occurred, while the amounts of potassium and sodium provide clues about the history of the rock. Rocks with more silica tend to erupt explosively. Higher contents of potassium and sodium, as seen in alkaline rocks like those at Gusev, may indicate partial melting of magma at higher pressure, that is, deeper in the Martian mantle.
The abundance of potassium and sodium determines the kinds of minerals that make up igneous rocks. If igneous rocks have enough silica, potassium and sodium always bond with the silica to form certain minerals.
The Gusev rocks define a new chemical category not previously seen on Mars, as shown in this diagram plotting alkalis versus silica, compiled by University of Tennessee geologist Harry McSween. The abbreviations "Na2O" and "K2O" refer to oxides of sodium and potassium.
The abbreviation "SiO2" refers to silica. The abbreviation "wt. %" indicates that the numbers tell what percentage of the total weight of each rock is silica (on the horizontal scale) and what percentage is oxides of sodium and potassium (on the vertical scale).
The thin lines separate volcanic rock types identified on Earth by different scientific names such as foidite and picrobasalt. Various classes of Gusev rocks (see box in upper right) all plot either on or to the left of the green lines, which define "alkaline" and "subalkaline" categories (subalkaline rocks have more silica than alkaline rocks).
Members of the rover team have named different classes of rocks after specimens examined by Spirit that represent their overall character. During the rover's travels, Spirit discovered that Adirondack-class rocks littered the Gusev plains; that Backstay, Irvine, and Wishstone-class rocks occurred as loose blocks on the northwest slope of "Husband Hill"; and that outcrops of Algonquin-class rocks protruded in several places on the southeast face.
These rocks have less silica than all previously analyzed Mars samples, which are subalkaline. The previously analyzed Mars samples include Martian meteorites found on Earth and rocks analyzed by the Mars Pathfinder rover in 1997. Gusev is the first documented example of an alkaline igneous province on Mars.
